A couple of weeks ago, we went maple sugaring at Lake Farmpark. We experienced various hands-on activities and sampled freshly made maple products. Yum! Will definitely consider going back next year. 😀
This is what it looked like three Saturdays ago – Cyber loves the snow…it’s the Siberian Husky in him. 😀
Then the following week, we had gorgeous, gorgeous weather (unlike this past weekend).
So we went maple sugaring at Lake Farmpark.
Woodland Center – where the magic happens!
Horse-pulled wagon – maybe we’ll catch one on our way back.
The boiling of the sap
Crazy for maple – we bought maple syrup, maple stir, and maple candy. 😀
Maple stir – simply maple syrup that has been heated to a higher temperature.
As you stir it, it will slowly harden and turn into maple candy!
It hadn’t turned into candy yet but who could wait? Not us! 😀
Alex tried the hand auger on a demo tree.
Maple sap
Visited the barnyard – I think it’ll take me a while to eat lamb
or pork again.
Took a ride on a tractor-pulled wagon back to the visitor center.
Alex had fun sitting up front. 😀
Back at the visitor center, Alex tried his hand in cranking the ice cream machine.
There was a quilt show going on as well, including a kid’s quilt scavenger hunt (Alex thought it was super fun).
How adorable is this?
A couple quilts
that caught my eye
My favorite quilt!
Easy French Toast
5 extra-large eggs
½ cup half & half
A pinch of salt
1 french baguette, sliced 1″ thick
1½ tablespoons unsalted butter and more if needed
1½ tablespoons vegetable oil and more if needed
Fresh fruit(s)
Maple syrup
In a pie plate or baking dish, whisk together the eggs, half & half, and salt. Place several slices of bread in the egg mixture, soaking each side for about a minute. In a large skillet, heat butter and oil over medium-high heat until the butter is melted and foamy. Cook the slices of bread, a few pieces at a time until golden brown on both sides. Repeat until all the bread is used up. Serve with fresh fruit(s) and maple syrup. Enjoy!
